a whirl of wind
gathers red, orange, green
leaves
forming a creature
of the colorful
season


he is the dragon
of Autumn

his breath is cool air
that draws the many
to marvel at the beauty
of a changing season

pumpkins smile at his
arrival
while children consume
cinnamon donuts

often he whispers in the wind
as leaves float around him

when the whiteness of
winter appears
he fades into chilly air
as leaf by leaf
kisses the frozen ground

his voice still whispers
in the wind
he will come back
at the next red, orange,
green, yellow season

cardinals sing to him
to keep him company
he listens, observes,
the dragon of Autumn
