Wake Up Call

by Artasylum

Peering into my reflection
I see a specter staring back.
She looks a little lost;
I’m sure she’s given up.

Her hollow eyes betray
an unforgiving inner voice.
Sadly she feels resigned
to a life she didn’t choose.

A faint flash behind her eyes
reveals a warm, familiar glow.
Vivid memories flare up,
as she dances through her past.

A wake up call is answered
it pulls her mostly back;
Shedding her self-pity,
she returns to present tense.

I give her one last glimpse,
resolute, I follow the cue.
My reflection 's in focus
as I turn to walk away.
