Foolscap to the Rescue

Sunrays peek over a sauntering cloud Smell of mountain pine tinges the air  My wife’s getting ready, I’ve time to kill Relax by the pool with nothing to do   Bored and restless, up, and walk a bit Damn, damn left my laptop at home I know, off to Walgreens, I’ll go old school Purchase a yellow foolscap pad and pen   I settle myself back at the pool Now I’ve got something to do I scan the blue heavens for inspiration Heck, no ideas come for stories or poems   No file of starter hints or rhyming dictionary I’ll just put pen to paper and hope words flow   Oh, so this is what it was like before Quite nice, I must say as I sit in the shade Soft breeze wafting, foolscap on my knee   Notions swirl in a free flowing current I pluck ideas from the rolling thought river Words began to stream from my pen   Glide across the paper and down the page Write, write, I’m entering the inspiration phase It feels so good satisfying the creative yearning   Shadow across my paper, she’s ready to go Flip the pad closed, heck with technology Promise myself to engage in the magic of Old school writing again and again
