Cinderella’s ‘Ugly Sister’

A Pantomime I have been in
T’was Cinderella once again.
But not the Cinders role you see
Instead, an ‘Ugly Sister’ ME.

And with my other sister mean
Made Cinderella sweep and clean.
You see, this role before I’ve played
My first time up upon the stage.

I was just twelve, now sixty five
This ‘Ugly Sister’ role revive.
We made the children laugh and shout
Cause ugly sisters mucked about.

But Fairy Godmother got mad,
And punished us when we were bad.
Her magic wand put us in trance
She tucked our dress into our pants.

And when the kids saw our knickers
Called out loud, the parents snickered.
Then at the ball we danced around
And even the poor prince he frowned.

We tried to win the prince's heart
But Cinders she did us outsmart!
So me and sister felt unloved
Into the cupboard, Cinders shoved.

Cause when the prince came with the shoe
We tried to make it fit us too.
Then he asked “Are there any more?
The kids all screamed “Behind that door”

So Cinderella slipper tried
The Ugly sister’s plan backfired.
The Prince and Cinders showed the rest
A happy ending was the best.

The audience they clapped and cheered
Our final bows each one appeared.
My kids and grandies came to see
They thought I made a good ‘Ugly’

Until next year I'll now await
For pantomimes are really great.
They keep me young I have a ball
My age, deters me, NOT at all.

I have been in our local theatre Pantomime 'Cinderella' and played the role of one of the Ugly Sisters' .

When I auditioned for this role I asked the director if I could play an Ugly Sister because when I was twelve in 1964 my first role in a play at school was one of the ugly Sister and I wanted to now play this role again at 65. The other ugly sister was 25

The cast was terrific and our costumes were great and we had so much fun putting this show on for the kids during their recent school holidays

My husband and grown Up kids and my grandkids all came along with other family and friends and they loved it. (despite my singing LOL) I won't give up my day job just yet Ha ha

I enjoy the theatre and have done quite a few shows and love the atmosphere and meeting new cast members. Never to old to tread the boards
