Shunned

by Janet Foor

A pall of clouds hung in the air
draped o’er the mountains like a stain.
Just when I thought the shroud would rise,
its vapors turned to pounding rain.

Old nagging aches came rolling in
and filled the hollows of my day.
I’ve gained new loves that feed my soul,
but ancient hurts seem here to stay.

So many times, I have been told
I must release them, let them go.
But every time I say I’m done –
I find another seam to sew.

Though cherished they will always be –
they have a different point of view.
I’ll count my blessings, pray for them –
and share this day I have with you.

When I joined FanStory in 2011, I planned to write uplifting poems of inspiration and hope. Lately, I find whenever I have an idea, a word or phrase for a poem, my muse takes me in a different direction. I guess in my heart of hearts, I have some work to do. This poem started with misty clouds hanging on the mountain side which sounded beautiful until I started to write about them.

Thank you for reading.
