My Other Leg

by persevere

I have a quirky phantom that goes about with me
He poses as my left leg from my toes up to my knee
Sends sensations multiple which land up in my head
He makes his presence really felt as I climb into my bed

He makes me feel a tightened calf, an itch upon my toe
Caused perhaps by nerves in stump, who will ever know
A reality check is put in place and right leg moved about
Phantom cannot match the moves and quickly chickens out

He hasn't got a notion of how stupid he makes me feel
When I ask my friends to mind my leg, it really is unreal
For amputated is that limb, out of the way of everyone
Limited is my phantom's time, so I take heart for his end to come
