God whispered

My Love's Enough

by Janet Foor

When stars of night forget to shine,
but fall and fade before our eyes.
When all that’s right cannot explain
just why they left these velvet skies.

Decisions made so long ago
hold consequences cruel and grim.
No hope, it seems,  to mollify
when life turns sour and sadly dim.

No blaming others for my plight.
The choices made were mine alone.
Rejection I can’t comprehend --
who knew that hearts could turn to stone.

Now here I am without a chance
of altering this harsh rebuff.
Then came God’s whisper in the breeze,
“You are my child – My love’s enough”.

My mother grew up in the Great Depression with 10 siblings. She had a hard life -- all of her life. But, she used to say to me in difficult times, It's enough. I always thought she meant, there's enough food, enough gas or enough money to pay the bills. Now as I struggle with some of life's challenges, I wonder if that is what she really meant when she said, It's enough.

We may think we will only hear God in the big things in life. That there will be flashing lights and fireworks when he speaks. But, sometimes, it's a gentle whisper just like Elijah heard in 1st Kings 19:11 -13.
