Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A glass of wine is suspect

Haze

by Pamusart

I thought that the wine had tasted real strange
like rind from a grape that's covered with mange
I really was certain drugs were put in
My very own screams fell out on my chin
I staggered and stumbled out of the room
but, couldn't help hearing footsteps of doom
My fear caused the sweats, which covered my shirt,
my pants and my skin, and fell off in spurts

Emerging outside and feeling the breeze,
I felt really cold and quite ill at ease
The bright blazing sunshine blinded most eyes,
but, brown and thick haze arose in my skies;
the haze, just for me; that no one else saw
I tried to call out but numb went my jaw
My tongue in a twist, I could not pronounce
the words that I thought which started to flounce*

Back into my brain; my words came to stay
Perhaps they'd get out on some future day
They gathered in swarms around in my head;
were perfectly clear, but could not be said
A stroke had occurred and nothing felt right
My tongue and my jaw were willing to fight
A gurney arrived and I was strapped down
Then sirens and lights did get me to town

The doctor on call was hoping I'd find
that others could hear the words in my mind
Injection he gave as soon as he could
His hope was this drug would do me some good
The footsteps I'd heard soon started to fade
and tongue and jaw worked, so words could be made

My haze, also lifted, showed the clear skies
My stroke was reversed; that doctor was wise
Ensure that you get the help that you need
'Cause sometimes a drug reverses the bleed

*Flounce - go or move in an exaggeratedly impatient or angry manner

If a loved one has a stroke and is losing function, ask about the drug that reverses the damage. I watched my dad find words in his head but be unable to get them out. I, myself had a stroke and have permanent damage. I remember being unable to talk. If you pay attention to what your tongue does when you talk, you will see that your tongue is essential.
