Potlatch Challenge, A Trilonnet

Under the Strawberry Moon

by June Sargent

Beneath the light of the strawberry moon
romantic young lovers pledged with a kiss
that flames of their passion would never die

But love does not weave a silken cocoon
preserving sweet dreams of eternal bliss
as gathering storm clouds darken the sky

The cold winds of war did claim all too soon
his life, his touch, their future - she will miss
If only she could have kissed him good-bye

It's midsummer's eve in the month of June
The scent of roses was hard to dismiss
as head held high she looks towards the sky

Whenever the strawberry moon shines bright
her heart remembers that one special night

Trilonnet, created by Shelley A. Cephas

14-line poem made up of four three-line verses of 10 syllables (iambic pentameter) and one rhyming couplet.
