Thoughts From a Reflection

by michaelcahill

I'd ask you what enamors you
to me
as I gaze
but we know a mirror
exists for us to meet
a greeting place
this space
face to face as it were
your world and mine
intertwine and sense
is sought
sometimes fought for

surely one of us knows
why time is so small
a lifetime, it is said,
fit into a single breath
before it ends

and time seems to run out
often
for something with no end

still we peruse the map of time
from brow to chin
calculating years
and fears that our appearance
tells the tale of each

then a deeper consideration
an assessment
quantitative analysis
comparative juxtaposition--
am I totemically risen in height
or cornerstoned edificially in some ...
cosmic reckoning ... a celestial book perhaps?

certainly echoes and ripples
tickle the fabric of something somewhere
in my honour

what say you, my reflection?

if I could only know where you're off to
when I'm not here
what worlds you escape to ...

perhaps I could answer
the one question
that would satisfy
my curiosity ...

what do you do
when I am away?
