Dance of Life

by June Sargent

In the dance of life,
we do not get to choose the song
Despite desire to right the wrong,
eliminating source of strife

When pain and suffering run rife,
for peace and quiet souls do long
In the dance of life,
we do not get to choose the song

Disappointment cuts like a knife,
but inner power keeps us strong
Separate ourselves from the throng
to march to our own drum and fife
in the dance of life
