'I am sorry, darling, I was with the baby. She's so beautiful, I lost track of time,' John said, planting a kiss on Barb's cheek.
'I only noticed she had a bump on her head. Not surprising, fourteen hours of suffering and the horrible little mite refused to come out.'
'You don't mean that. You are just tired.'
John tried to hold Barb's hand, but she hid it under the sheets.
He decided it was time to remain silent for a while. He looked around the ward for the first time and noticed there were leaks on the plaster ceiling.
