Sunday, while driving down a street in my neighborhood, I noticed how many people had rich mulch in their flower beds and for some reason I thought about mulch for the soul and wouldn’t that be a good topic for a minister’s sermon, and then I thought…..maybe a pome.  :)
 
Do souls occasionally need help?
I bet mine prob’ly does;
I’m the biggest cynic that there ever was.
Or if not the biggest,
I’m right up there
With lawyers, comedians and psychiatrists.
(you thought I was going to rhyme with “there”, didn’t you?)

but on with the pome -
 
Heavenly mulch, now there’s a thought.
Ingredients?   let’s see…what ought…?
Instead of coffee grounds, I think,
Some equanimity. (two pounds)
Yep, calmness helps most every time
And sensitivity.
Some empathy—an open mind, mixed with humility.
No, wait…scratch that, (I know, I know, it’s just too nice for me)
I’d rather have quick thinking, yeah,
With the ability
To keep from saying foolish things—
KEEP OUT! senility.
Mulch is meant to help, enhance,
Which sure is what I need,
But wait.  It’s soul we’re talking here,
And that should supersede
The ailing personality (mine is going to seed.)
So, back to souls, and back to mulch,
A good old fashion fix, from
Sun-dried positivity, and understanding mixed
With fresh, recycled common sense
And oh, lest I forget,
A memory, (little humor there), and energy, yes, please!
A soul may need to energize, but so do my old knees.
Regeneration is the key,
A nudge from good intent
And soon my soul will wonder where
The cynicism went.
