Standing tall

by Chrissy710

        Standing tall

I know to you I’m just a kid
You think that I am small,
But look at me I’ll not be hid
Cause’ in my mind I’m tall.

My feelings often do get hurt
When you won’t hear my voice,
No power with you can exert
You never give me choice.

Just ask me please do not dictate
Your rules impose on me,
Discuss your plans that would be great
Look closely and you’ll see.

A little person with a mind
Who wants to meet half-way?
And if you take the time you’ll find
I have so much to say.

Don’t yell or scream and make me cry
Or smack me when I’m bad,
Instead be kind and then I will
Try not to make you mad.

Please mummy dear, this is my plea
Sometimes just let me speak;
I’ll raise my hand so you will see
Your time is all I seek.

Recognized

Sometimes I think children get ignored and not listened too when in fact many children have much to say if given a chance to speak. Busy parents often dictate and set rules to suit themselves and not necessarily the child. This poem is for all the 'silent children' . Never forget we were once children and need our voices heard.
