The Big Adventure

by Bridget Myer

Grabbing some lunch first finding a seat.
'Stay right here I won't be long'.

Alone and overwhelmed, the little boy sat not for long just a hares whisker

So many faces, so much noise, 'where is my mum?'
A whimper a tear a worried concern...'where is she? Come back please'.

A rough old hand but a kindly face dried his eyes and calmed him down.
and took him away by his little hand.

Coming back. Frantic looks. Where's my child did you see my little man.
Crippling worry washes over her, a feeling of loss and utter despair.
Guilt and panic.

Take a breath...Leave the pram take your bag.
Look around what can be see.
Seas of faces, strangers.

In the distance oh so fast, there he is, his snowy hair walking away holding a strangers hand.
'Stop!' I cry and move so fast, catch them up...
'where are you going' with my little man.

Up stretches his hand with a tear stained face a shattered look of utter fear.
A questioning look of where did you go? You left me alone.

Give me my boy...thank you kind sir...A lesson quite learned.
A lingering embrace, a terrified face, he was lost and I was lost.

A remembering from a time well past, fear and disbelief.
