I Know My Place

by HarryT

Here I stand day after day doing my job
Holding open the six panel kitchen door
Never moving except when I’m bumped
Little respect comes from those in a rush

They never give me a look or a thought
If I’m lucky, I’m dusted when the busy
Vacuuming mom realizes I’m here and it's
No fun being kicked by cellphone talkers

Do enjoy when Susie brings her dollies to play
I’m a proud Beagle doorstop her dolls loved pet
Never get hungry for table scraps or mushy dog food
Never have to go out and pee in the freezing cold

Just holding open the door is my routine
I’m grateful I have a home and a family
Warmth in the winter, cool in the summer
Thankful I’m not alone in a garbage heap
