Ekphratic Poem

Dream Chasers

by Just2Write

Just beyond the hem of the horizon,
Is a place where paradigms of purple
collide with our existence in today;
A universe that we create in dreams
to shift and shimmy through our unsure minds.
There, hum-drum boundaries do not exist -
and like a lark we soar beyond the truths
and limitations of our fettered souls.

For that which we can dream into being
can proffer ways to cope or offer hope
should discontent and discord rule our lives.
Behold, the moon, in muted shades of mauve
It hangs like plump, ripe fruit above the brine.
The sky, a piquant shade of verdant green,
reflects upon a tranquil, rippled sea
where hues of lavender now rock the moon.

How easily our illusions shatter;
they scatter and dissolve before our eyes.
Quickly will we vet them and forget them;
A painter's piece of muted mauve gives way;
and we abandon his illusion's mood
to drown ourselves in reason's harsh cold truth
that grounds us in today, and hides from us
the way to find and touch tomorrow's dreams.

Ekphratic poetry - An Ekphrasis is a poem by a writer that describes or generates a mood created by a piece of art. The work of art can be a sculpture, a painting, or anything else that is someone's creation. Ekphratic poems can be written in any poetic genre. This one is 3 octaves of Free Verse in iambic pentameter.

This is my first entry to FanStory's new "Club" feature and I was inspired to check it out by Gloria and her marvellous submission 'October is the Kindest Month'. The club feature is a great way to get in contact with poets that share your poetic interests and will encourage us to teach and learn about our chosen art.
