The Junior Cert Results

Results Day

by Bichon

Tomorrow the Junior Cert results will be rolled out all over Ireland. Some students will be excited about receiving their results, some will be nervous, and some won't really care.

I'm hovering between the nervous and not caring so much. Of course I want good grades, but at the end of the day, junior cert results don't count for much. The teachers put an overwhelming amount of pressure on students over this examination which isn't exactly helpful either. It can stress the students out too much and make them fearful of sitting the exams.

You have the choice of opening the results during school time or when you return home. I think I will be waiting until I go home, because I don't really want to share my results with the whole year. It's all down to personal choice of course.

There are a few benefits that accompany results day though, such as finishing early on Wednesday and being allowed to come in late on the Thursday. A lot of other students will be going to the discos, while some go out for a meal with family and friends.

For some young people it can be an achievement to make it as far as taking the exam in the first place. Grades don't always matter in the lower level examinations. All you can do, is do your best. As long as you've tried, there is no shame in getting poor results. Not all are born to be academics.

The Junior Cert is the first state exam that students take in Ireland.
