A famous model wakes up as a bride.

What Just Happened?

by Natali Holden

"Yeah, it'd be nice to see you again. Maybe we could plan a shoot for after your honeymoon, Jase," I said.

"Sounds good. I gotta go now. Tomorrow's gonna be great. Too bad you can't make it," Jason said.

We both hung up and I let out a sigh. It wasn't that I couldn't go to his wedding. It was just that I couldn't. We had dated back in highschool and to tell the truth, I had never really gotten over him. I was jealous of his bride. Why couldn't I be her? I was also a little worried about what I might do if I went. Through all my life, I was never known for self-control. Actually I was known for the opposite of it or my good looks which is how I became a model.

I looked out the window; it was dark out already. I guess time flies when you're talking to the man you love. "I better start getting in bed," I said to myself. "After all, I'm going to have to keep myself busy tomorrow, to keep my mind off him..."

As soon as I got into bed I was fast asleep...

The next morning I woke up to someone shaking me. "Christie, Christie."

I opened my eyes and saw a girl I'd never seen before right above me. "What? Who's Christie and who are you?"

"Stop playing around, Christie. You have to get ready for the wedding," the brunette said.

"I'm not playing around. Can you please tell me what's going on?"

"I'm your best friend and bride's maid, Karina. You are Christiana. And today is your wedding day, where you will be marrying your future husband, Jason."

"Jason? I'm marrying Jason? Am I dreaming? This sounds too good to be true. Pinch me."

Karina pinched me. "Yes, this is real. What happened to you? Why aren't you remembering anything?"

"I'm not..." Wait, this is all I've ever dreamed of. Why shouldn't I just go along with it? No one would know and Jason would be mine... "Ok, Kary. Where's my dress at?"

"Glad you're finally remembering, Christie. Right this way." Karina led me to a room with a wedding dress in it. There was also a mirror; I walked up to it. My reflection looked nothing like I remembered. I had blonde hair instead of ginger. I had blue eyes instead of milky brown. And I was pale instead of tanned.

I quickly got dressed and Kary did my make-up and hair. "You look beautiful, Christie. Jason will be shocked. I mean he's always thought you're drop dead gorgeous, but now he'll think you're double drop dead gorgeous, maybe even triple!"

I wonder if he ever thinks of me as beautiful or just a friend? I have to tell him. I'd feel terrible the rest of my life if he thought he was marrying Christie, but it was actually me. "Kary..."

A knock sounded at the door. "Come in!" I shouted.

Jason entered. "Karina, can I talk to Christie alone."

"Sure, Jason." Kary left the room and Jason walked over to me.

"Jason, there's something I have to tell you." I paused. Jason waited patiently and I couldn't resist. I put my arm around his neck and kissed him. Jason didn't pull away, he just closed his eyes.

"Rhea..." he muttered, dreamily.

I pulled away. "Jase, I'm so sorry. It's Rhea, not Christie. I woke up this morning and was your bride. After we broke up, but continued being friends I never stopped loving you. I thought I could become your wife, but I wouldn't be able to be myself."

"I thought you were dead."

"They say you were shot as you walked down the red carpet this morning."

"It must've been Christie... I'm so sorry!"

"It's fine. She had it coming. We were friends and she fell in love with me. One day she told me she was a murderer and forced me to marry her. I never loved her though. Anyways after I thought you were dead, I was coming to call off the wedding. I realized I would never love her like this and that I wouldn't marry her no matter what. I love you, Rhea. Will you marry me?"

"Will I? Of course I will, Jase! I've never loved anyone more than you!" I jumped into my lover's arms and he spun me around. Then we kissed. I felt a shiver run down my spine and Jason stepped back. I glanced at the mirror and saw I was back to myself, still wearing the wedding gown and my hair and make-up were still done, but my looks were normal.

"Rhea, I love you..."

"I love you too, Jase. I love you too..."
