Is there anything sadder than unrequited love?

A Teen's Lament

by RodG

Sad Poems Contest Winner
As summer quickly disappears,
I dread the day when you will go.
We've been amigos all these years,
yet you've no clue I love you so.

To you I'm just your best friend's sis,
one of the guys, that "ditsy" gal
you always tease and love to dis,
your brownie baker, pizza pal.

You're college-bound, I'm stuck right here.
I can't compete with cute coeds,
soror'ty girls you'll meet this year,
the many lovely undergrads.

A moonless night with one bright star
we cooked s'mores and sang off key.
While strumming on that old guitar,
you broke a string and grinned at me.

I knew it then I'd lost my heart,
but my sad whimper went unheard.
Because we'll be so far apart,
I've stifled love, said not one word.

Writing Prompt
Sadness has overcome us all at one time or another. Either caused by a relative or close friend's death or from the girl or guy that broke our heart or just life in general. We all handle situations differently, some good, some bad. This contest gives us the ability to explore this. Your poem can also play into other emotions that are common to writing like this such as anger or depression.
