The Sailor and the Maiden

by Luna

To Mickey, with love.
'
One day the village had a fair,

twas in the flow'ry month of May.
"Good morning," to a maiden said,
"Say you, my Lady, might I stay?"

At night, we'd drink it all away
under the shining silver moon.
Together we would dance all night,
'
twas in the merry month of June.

Job offer
 on a sailor's crew ~
you cried and begged
me please to stay.
I could not crush seafarer's urge,
we kissed. I swiftly went away.

When back from sea, I got my legs,
and ambled
o'er to Merry Pub.
You were there, I begged you marry,

proposal got a cruel snub.

"You're ragged and you're dirty, Sir,"
you turned your back to me and said,
"Begone, you smelly Sailor cad,
ne'er will take you to be wed."

When I informed you I had wealth,
had silver in my pocket, love,
you caught your breath, dropped to your knees,
"I'll marry you, my sailor dove."

"What, do you think me crazy, love?
Since you've refused my offer, girl,
another maiden I shall wed ~
I'll give her diamonds, beads, and pearls."

"You'll always
rue
this fateful day
I came to take you far away."
