I could not believe my eyes or nose at Saturday's farmer's market--a woman squeezed bell peppers while eating McDonald's French fries. The sight and scent struck me as incongruous amid a bounty of the finest and freshest fruits and produce my region offers. The sight also distilled our culture's struggle between fast food and fresh food. I began composing my poem in my head and finished it while putting away my groceries and bell peppers.
