When friends or family pass on

When Life Ends

by Linda Engel

A storm's a brewing
toward my body
To burst my heart into a million pieces
and move my soul towards the heavens.

Like a thief in the night
Death moved into the wee morning hours
holding my hand for it was time
Time to say goodbye to the world I've known.

No more to see the smile on my child's face
No more to hug my friends
No more to do the things I love.

But now I can watch you from above
Sending you my love in surprising ways
Holding on to the memories we shared
As you treasure your new coming days.

This is a free style poem inspired by the Picture This group. It is not my usual style in story telling but it does have a heart felt meaning.
My group my theatre friends lost two of our friends this week . Both were talented actors and community staples. We had both of their funerals on Saturday afternoon, back to back. Both had heart attacks in the early morning hours on the morning of their death. Joanne was 83 and Joey was 47 years old. Joanne had just finished doing her part in the play "Steel Magnolias". It finished on Thusday, September 1st and she passed away the following Monday morning, Sept 5th. Joey passed away Tuesday morning , Sept 6. I had the please of directing Joey in "Of Mice and Men" . He played the part of Linny. As I sit here this Sunday afternoon the shock is wearing away and the reality of our loss is setting in. I cry.
