On Bended Knee

by Susanne M. Psyris

This ring, it shines, all glittering, so bright
It happened seven years ago today
This memento of a most perfect night
My dreams came true, no longer were they frayed.

On bended knee you held out a small gift
And there proposed to me to be your wife
My thoughts ran rampantly, I could not sift
Through all the things important in my life.

You placed the ring upon my finger slow
And held my hands in yours so tenderly
I wept such tears of joy and I did know
That, yes, I'd be your wife eternally.

Today, I look at you and see we've aged
God blessed the day that we became engaged.

Today this Ring Means... contest entry
