A Symmetrical Acrostic - We Celebrate National Poetry Month

A chapter in the book Of Poets and Poetry

The NaPoWriMo Bash of the Centuries

by ~Dovey

We've shared tremendous poetry,
Developed camaraderie,
I wish to say it was so grand,
Though we have cramps in writer's hand.

I've entertained my poet's dream,
Imagination is supreme -
To meet poets of the ages,
Immortalized on these pages.

Where Whitman left his steady tread,
Emily baked her loaves of bread,

Chaucer recited his A, B, C's,
Emily R. made brief entries,
Lear regaled with his limericks,
Even Nash shared with us his tricks.
Brooks inspired an April song,
Rumi sent a ghazal along.
As Marianne Moore spoke of sports,
Thomas extended hope, of sorts,
Ere Frost breaks in with his reports -

Nothing gold can stay. Now, as May
Awaits her turn, what's left to say?
Teasdale, Wevill, and Plath were mourned,
In suicide their lives they scorned -
Ode penned - to loss too young, of Keats;
Now breathe two breaths, regain your seats,
And sit with me while we refrain
Lamenting loss in purple rain.

Parker was the hidden jewel,
Oliver -- nature's renewal,
Etheree marched for soldier's plight,
Then Pound beat war drums in the night,
Rossetti dreamt in 'Spring Revealed,'
Yes, Updike joked and laughter pealed.

Mr. Cummings used his own styles,
Oh my, Tom Hardy's date brought smiles,
Naturally, Yeats told of his isles.
Then Zaterenska did appear,
Her husband bent Ralph Waldo's ear.

This guest list has made history,
Even Tennyson had to crash,
And why? Well that's no mystery --
It was the premiere Poet's Bash!

I'm thanking all who shared the fun,
and attended at my behest,
Ziggy Stardust's last song is sung,
I suggest you all get some rest.

This is a style I created years ago. My wish is to promote positive enlightenment.
My original is titled Symmetry and is in my portfolio: http://www.fanstory.com/displaystory.jsp?hd=1&id=618240&userid=144222&tf=0

A Positive Acrostic Word or Phrase
2 rhyming quatrains after the Acrostic word

As you can see above, my phrase is, "We Celebrate National Poetry Month," and I've done this poem as a recap of all the works, poets, and styles I've shared in my NaPoWriMo book, Of Poets and Poetry.

I'm dedicating this poem to everyone who has read, reviewed, and encouraged all of us taking the NaPoWriMo Challenge and especially those who have hung in there this whole month and created books of their own! Please give a round of applause to Robyn Corum, Pantygynt, shelley kaye, Judiverse, Leineco, BeasPeas, fionageorge, Debbie Noland, Winnona, lightink, Stacia Ann, I am Cat, jannypan, Debra White, Sandra du Plessis, dejohnsrld (Debbie), Barb Hensongispsaca, and Joy Graham and tfawcus who were following along unofficially!
