A Monody, for my beloved sister

A chapter in the book In Time of Need

No Holding On

by Dawn of Tomorrow

She was the mirror for my heart.
No more to see myself I fear,
for she was taken, kept apart
from all who dwelt within her sphere.

I do not know the pain she bore
along her dark and cancerous road,
I only know from me would pour
a million tears, which overflowed

into my soul. Damned hands of fate,
how dare thee fling my heart to hell,
I beg thee take this cursed weight,
for in that pit I shall not dwell.

I must rise up, defeat the beast,
that holds me taut, fore'er in tow,
so she can rest in peace; released.
Her light, once doused, now e'er will glow.

Write a Monody writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
In this contest I want you to write a monody. A monody is a poem in which one person laments another's death, as in Tennyson's Break, Break, Break, or Wordsworth's She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways, shown below. Your poem needs to have an abab rhyme scheme, no limit on length and your choice of meter. Meter choice must be the same for all stanzas.

SHE dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love:

A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye!
--Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky.

She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
