Those Haunting Blues

by Dawn of Tomorrow

My mem'ries are but stepping stones
into a past that I resent.
It's filled with midnight-bluish tones;
a darkened, grotesque beast torments.

I thought for sure I'd found the light
when I escaped, departed ways,
but still my mind replays the night,
won't let me set recall ablaze.

Why can't remembrance disappear?
I need to burn the ties that bind
me to that man; he instills fear.
My God, don't let the past rewind!

But wait, I see the day my child
was born. This darling girl who brings
me jubilance. Although she's wild
and free, she's graced with cherub wings.

The mem'ry of that merge I'll not
forget. Seems I'm entrapped, entwined
with yesterday. It's here I'm caught
between dislike and joy. Resigned,

I'll let my daughter's love light guide
and keep our lives content, complete,
while making evil visions hide.
My thoughts and dreams; all bittersweet.
