Midnight's Journey to Morning

Midnight's Journey to Morning

Goodness, "mew", now what to do?
These sisters clamor, brothers too--
find the milk our current task;
over, under, we don't ask.

Don't call me teeny!
You're a meany.
No I'm not.
Whew, there's a spot.

Somehow those days passed right by.
I grew, but slower, don't know why.
I was the smallest that's for sure,
but all in all I felt secure.

A man and lady scooped me up,
a house of children and a pup.
The kids where fun, the pup a fool;
I slept till kids came home from school.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke one morning all were gone,
my food bowl empty on the lawn.
Since then I wandered on my own;
sometimes I'd eat, always alone.
A lady took me from the rain
and just like that--a home again.
Another lady, a long-haired guy,
I acted cool but I could cry.
Oh my, a tower I could scratch
and tons of toys that I could snatch--
a warm nice lady (with her I'd sleep)
no reason anymore to weep.
But I was tired and feeling down;
they looked me over with a frown.
A car ride, quick, now off we go;
oh my I'm fading, low, low, low.
All around me gathered sad,
seems that something must be bad.
Love surrounds me as I fade.
I thank them for the life they
made.
It must be morning--there's the sun.
I'm wide awake; I feel like fun!
There's cats, a zillion, here it seems.
It's where we wake up from cat dreams.
Recognized
We found a stray cat right before some big rains were due, so.... we did what we do. We got all his shots and had him neutered. He turned out to have feline leukemia. He became deathly ill and we took him to the vet. After seven hundred dollars of care it was determined that putting him down would be the kindest act. We only had him for three weeks. Most of our pets live for an incredibly long time beating the expectations by a long shot. This little guy deserves his spot with them. We loved him every bit as much.
I tried to make this something children might relate to. It's a traumatic thing for adults and children as well, but harder to explain to kids. I was inspired by Domino's contest, but I'm too wordy as usual. :))
I didn't bother to use any particular meter or form. Just read it out loud and it should sound okay. (I hope)
As far as the ending, it's simplistic, but in a much more complex way, I do believe this.
Does this sound kid friendly?
