Kitty Delight

by Dawn Munro

Kitty Delight

Every little bit of you,
from whiskers to your tail,
the glint in your bright cat's eyes,
and the way that you exhale:

stretching out, relaxing, nestling
snugly under foot
(and leaving me no tiny place
where I can safely put
my step - I stumble - 'cause you
regally hold space -
as if there's never any need
for anyone to brace herself
to keep from falling down).

I swear I don't embellish -
you could wear a kitty crown.

You grumble if you have to move -
if really mad you'll hiss.
But if you didn't share my world,
I'd be so sad, Miss Priss.
For when you purr or put your paw
upon my hand to ask,
there's not a single thing that I
consider a hard task.

I cook your fish, I sift through litter
mining for your turds
(as anyone would do for any
kitty who loves birds).
Your tail will twitch when angry
I've disturbed your lengthy nap,
but never when a sparrow flies -
you aren't a birdy trap.

In fact I bet those birds could perch
upon your fluffy fur,
while other kitties' claws would be
a deadly feline blur.
It's such an honour when you let me
hug and hold you tight.
Miss Prissy you are certainly
my kitty-cat delight.
