Pantoum Sonnet

Faerie Lights

by w.j.debi

The faerie lights are twinkling in the night,
displaying all the magic we adore.
Beguiling, aren't they? Such a pretty sight.
Their trap is set, enticing and secure.

Displaying all the magic we adore,
amazing and exquisite, they entrance.
The trap is set, enticing and secure.
So many wicked sprites have joined this dance.

Amazing and exquisite, they entrance.
You'd best be heeding all your darkest fears.
So many wicked sprites have joined this dance.
Remember, Rip Van Winkle slept for years.

The faerie lights are twinkling in the night.
Beguiling, aren't they? Such a pretty sight...

A Pantoum Sonnet is a combined form

Like the sonnet it has 14 lines with three quatrains and a couplet. Generally, it is written in iambic pentameter.

Like a pantoum it has repeated lines:
The 2nd and 4th line of the first stanza become the 1st and 3rd lines of the second stanza. The 2nd and 4th lines of the second stanza become the 1st and 3rd lines of the third stanza. The lines of the closing couplet are the same as the 1st and 3rd lines of the beginning stanza.
