What Is More Beautiful?

by BeasPeas

'More Opinions, Politics & Comments' ~ #27-401-B-C

What is more beautiful than the red, white and blue?
Waving free and proud against the clouds,
flapping and snapping crisp in the wind,
above the parades and milling crowds.

What lofty goal does it preserve up there so high?
Taken for granted by us each day,
raised and lowered on a pole to the sky,
"just colors," some say, then turn away.

But what if it was gone, if it ceased to exist?
Would we cry for liberty, now missed?
Ourselves deprived of the gifts it brings,
and fight for the ground that once we kissed.

Will we unite to honor our flag flying free?
In the true American spirit,
celebrate with picnics and fireworks,
and vow to keep our land, not lose it
