Rescuing the English language one word at a time...

Save a Word

by Deniz22

I have chosen to rescue the word bloviate and I seek your help in keeping or perhaps introducing this most delicious word onto the palate of the public tongue.

Perhaps you do not agree this wonderful word needs rescuing. It could be you sprinkle it generously through all your conservations. Good! Together we have motivation for bloviation promotion!

Let us consider ten ways of rescuing bloviate from oblivion:

1. Enjoy: it rolls from one's lips, giving a wordsmith's inner satisfaction...try it, now. See?

2. Useful: it is needed. A Presidential election is even now standing in the wings...

3. Employ: work it into everyday conversation; "What a beautiful day to bloviate!"

4. Text it: "LOL! R U bloviating me?"

5. Identify it: "Wow! That was powerful bloviating on Fox last night!"

6. Identify it: on FanStory; "You are some kind of writer! I wish I had a thousand stars; I'd sprinkle them all over the sky of this superb (song) (poem) (script) (story). BTW, did you know my own humble effort has been published on Amazon? I thought you would want to know, because you helped me get published, even though we have never met. That's right, your writing was key in this whole thing, as it inspired me! It's only $12.95. My book. Poetry.

7. Clarify: "I really wasn't bloviating, sweetheart, I just wanted you to know, men are different. We.... (fill in the blank).

8. Define: bloviate...a verb used to describe the detailing of things which I have already rejected in principal

9. Defend: "Stop giggling, right now, children! That really isn't what the word means no matter what Billy says!"

10. Practice: We must practice what we preach, so continue to bloviate away. One man's bloviating is yet another man's immortal words. The celebration at Gettysburg's was described by a reporter as "a wonderful occasion spoiled by President Abraham Lincoln."
So...be strong! Bloviate...and spread this word!

The English language seems to be ever-changing. New words appear while older words either acquire new meaning or sink into the quicksand of contemporary electronic communication. Let's take umbrage at this process and join the campaign to "Save a Word". Select an English word you feel is in danger of extinction or electronic warping from its original meaning. Argue passionately for its preservation in its pure form or as a last resort, even suggest a new meaning for it...just save it! Use it in a catchy jingle (remember those?) for FanStory or in a tome on brain surgery...but use it. Show its enduring beauty...polish it to its original luster...make us cry, laugh, rage...just Save a Word...now.
