Slowing Down the Speed of Life

by dejohnsrld (Debbie)

Slowing Down the Speed of Life

It wasn’t so very long ago
before modern technology
the pace of life was much more slow
now we just rush and go, go, go.

Do we get anywhere faster?
Or do we drive ourselves insane?
Pressure to achieve, our master
multi-tasking a disaster.

When it comes our time to depart
will the dirty dishes matter?
Or should we follow the heart
pursuing interests and art?

Unmade beds not a mortal sin,
Who’s going to care anyway?
Perhaps instead we should begin
to enjoy our lives once again.

I refuse to text, tweet or chat.
I don’t always answer the phone.
With words I chose to dabble at
Is there something wrong with that?

In choosing how I spend my time,
and by claiming my life as mine,
I find the time to play with rhyme
while striving for a life sublime.

Reading some of my older poetry today and reflecting on my priorities.

Has anyone heard from Maureen? The last time I did, I know she was really struggling.

Thanks to everyone who have been so very supportive during my latest crisis. Today I talked with the district attorney about my son. He will receive a two year suspended sentence, and be on probation. He will have to have a psych and substance abuse evals and comply with any recommendation of those. He will also be required to take an anger management course. Hopefully in the long run, this will be a chance to get his life in order. I hope we can once again have a good relationship. For now, he will only be able to phone or email me, if and when he wants to. You are all such wonderful people
