haibun (reluctant survivor)

by Spiritual Echo

haibun Contest Winner
midnight. tin roof, spring rain and lullabies. let me sleep. broken heart, swollen dreams, pregnant rain drops sliding down my cheeks. morning chill crawls through my veins, leaving rusty rings where love once lived. reluctant survivor, foolish miser, nothing left to share. loneliness: my sole companion on a rainy day. desolate emptiness, old, forgotten faces, wrinkled, crippled choices haunt my days. coffee shop suspicion, strangers who don't know my name, sharing nothing but the bitter scent of stale coffee. eyes buried in newspapers or vacant, unfocused stares, no longer searching. lost. not even memories join us as we congregate and sit together, isolated in a crowd.
