A chapter in the book When Words Come To Life

The Dress She Wanted

by donette1914

This is a story of a woman who really wanted this dress
she wore it once and tried it on, she knew she looked the best.
She wanted to tell her father about the dress she had found
a price tag of five thousand dollars for her perfect gown.

His ears could hardly believe the cost and the price
his little girl all grown up, how he had to think twice
He thought as a man of his word, tears fell upon his face,
he couldn't afford it, and how he had felt a disgrace.

I'm sorry honey, I wished there was something I can do.
wanting it no matter what, it couldn't possibly be true.
Please, daddy, I beg of you, Is there anything you can do?
He thought and thought and deep down he already knew.

The worst thing he would do, was to break his daughter's heart,
to cry and tears would fall, it would tear him apart he went to his bank and begged for a loan,
he wanted so badly to take that dress home.

To sell his house he didn't want to do, in order for her to get the dress
for her to be happy and for her marriage to be blessed.
It was going to be a lot of hard work he couldn't make,
to earn the money back, it was everything that he could take

She got a divorce sadly, a beautiful marriage it didn't last
the dress was put away and forgotten, it's now in the past
He has no house everything is gone, as broke as could be,
because of his love for his daughter, he couldn't foresee.
