Nothing Else Will Do

by Peter@Poole

I sense that I'm a sinner, Lord;
the dirt lies deep within;
no matter how I struggle, Lord,
I never can quite win.

I've read the words of Buddha [1], Lord,
considered what Marx [2] said,
but they're not like my brother [3], Lord,
who suffered in my stead.

There's nothing but the blood of Christ
will wash away my sin;
no, nothing but the blood of Christ
can help this sinner win.

Recognized

1. Gautama Buddha, called the "enlightened one".

2. Karl Marx, who conceived his own interpretation of reality and called it "dialectical materialism". The other comedian was Groucho.

3. Jesus Christ, who said, "I am the way, the truth and the life."
