Another one for the collection.
Heart Collector
by Marillion
Compared to the rejections I've experienced before,
I'd say that this cuts deeper than the simple stab and twist. I followed her directions, and I thought that our rapport would help my heart to keep her, but a flicking of her wrist shoved steel into my belly with a chill that swiftly spread. It wasn't even bloody, but it drained me of my will, reduced my legs to jelly and my anxious feet to lead. A lump of formless putty, I was primed for her to kill, but she intently teased me with a dangling shred of hope. She said, "I'm just enjoying all the steps of knowing you." I think, though, she appeased me just to tighten up the rope, And when she's finished toying with my heart...then I'll be through. I'll end up stuffed and mounted, just another listed name engraved and smugly counted on her crowded wall of shame. |
