Ego and Heart
Went out for a walk
One bright and sunny day
Down the street to the public park
Where the local children play

Upon the steps of a house
Heart called a real damn shame
Slumped a fat ragged woman
With a beer and a cigarette
Watching a street stickball game

Ego simply grunted
And turned his face away
It's her damn fault he snapped
She made all the choices in life
That's how she wound up that way

Bull crap said Heart
Life's not always that easy
You can build a fine sailboat
Set your sails for a great journey
But God tells wind to be still or breezy

Ego folded his arms
In stubborn dark dismay
What's the point of life you say?
If no matter what choices you make
It's always going to be only God's way

Glad we got together today
God gave us free will indeed to choose
To find good or bad or to win or lose
And the way we discover what is God's way

Is to open our heart, put our ego away, close
Our eyes and honestly pray.
