A Mother's Prayer

A Mother’s Prayer Dear Lord, It’s just me again, And Christmas is drawing near, You know how much my heart aches, Around this time of year. Lord help me to remember, He’s where he needs to be, He loves his job, he does it well, He’s protecting family. He wanted to make a difference, Make this world a better place, Lord I’m just so proud, Of this young man that we’ve raised. I’m so proud of what he does, The sacrifice he makes, Men like him keep us free, No matter what it takes. But Christmas is for families, And part of mine’s not here, I’m trying to be strong, Lord, But it doesn’t stop the tears. Lord help me to quit watching, And listening for his car, There’s no way he can come home, I know that in my heart. When we sit down to dinner, We’ll give thanks to you above, And just be very grateful, That we have each other to love. But every once in a while, Lord, I’ll glance at the empty chair, and sadness will overcome me, Because one child isn’t there. Lord, on this very special day, Please be with my son, For we’re all together here, But he’ll be all alone. He’ll say he’s doing fine Lord, When he calls on Christmas Day, But I’ll note a hint of sadness, No matter what he says. He misses us, as we miss him, In my heart, I know it’s true, But help us to remember Lord, He’s doing what he needs to do. Watch over him and guide him, Keep him from harm’s way, And keep my baby safe, Lord, On Christmas and every day. |
Thank you to all the military folks out there... The sacrifices never end.
