Dragon in My Closet

by Magic Wand

There's a dragon in my closet and he's messing up my clothes.
Mom won't believe my story if I tell her 'bout all those
Missing socks (he's wearing them), and hoodie sweatshirt too.
I'm thinking fast but can't explain, so what am I to do?

He's making noisy dragon sounds, she's sure to hear them soon.
She'll scream out and cry when she finds what's hiding in my room.
"Come out, Dragon, you can't wear my clothes-they just don't fit.
I'll let you wear my all time favorite leather baseball mitt."

"I'll show you all my baseball cards if you will just come out,
And teach you how to bat a ball, so quiet now, don't shout.
When mom is busy vacuuming her room, we'll sneak outdoors.
But first I have to hide this mess inside my dresser drawers."

My coaxing seems to work just great, my room is clean and now,
We take the stairs two at a time, don't slam the door, then WOW!
Dragon kids can surely slam the ball with their long tails,
I hear the "slap" as tail meets ball and watch it as it sails.

The white dot soars clear out of sight, I high five my new friend.
I'm wishing I could bat like that, then every game I'd win.
I'd be the team's new MVP, sign autographs for kids,
And Ebay would go bonkers when my card was up for bids.

I'm glad now that I wrote my name on every single ball
And all my friends who find them will soon give me a call.
Time to quit, my dragon pal, Mom's calling me to eat.
You head on home, the balls are gone, but soon again we'll meet.

The calls come in from far and wide; the balls have all been found.
The yard is filled with neighbor kids sitting on the ground .
"Thanks, you guys, for coming here, you brought them one and all.
So now let's practice. Did I hear somebody say, "Play Ball!"?
