The Optimist

by angelmagnet

I grin widely now,
even I don't recognize
that age brings wrinkles

this is a 575 verse - I call it American haiku. Instead of dealing with nature, it deals with attitude.

The Good Optimist

In order to be an optimist, especially a good one, one has to adopt certain skills and characteristics which might be tagged denial by the more cynical among us.

The good optimist will insist that the future will be enjoyable, healthy, and abundant no matter the evidence of the present.

The good optimist will maintain(or quickly regain) a smile even when the sky is falling.

The good optimist will assume that everyone is doing the best they possibly can given their particular circumstances. They will live to increase the world's health, the People's happiness, and all our children's joy.

Seeing the best in others is prerequisite to seeing the best in one's self.

Seeing the best in one's self is prerequisite to seeing the best in others.

An optimist, from the severely tested to the newly ordained, recognizes that the world holds great beauty and every day is a gift.

Without blinders, the optimist sees beauty amidst squalor and acts accordingly.

The optimist offers joy with new requirement that it be taken or returned.

Classes starting soon in an area nearby all who care to learn.

Check your local optimist's club for details.

thanks to Phyllis Stewart for the picture. I counted this haiku on my fingers last night and made the essay to go with it, today. I hope this works for you.
