Miss Higgledy Piggledy
by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
Miss Higgledy Piggledy was always a mess,
she would always drip ice cream and juice down her dress. The floor in her bedroom was covered with toys dollies and jig-saws, but nothing for boys. Her brother Smarty Pants, was ever so clean, the cleanest and tidiest boy ever seen. All of his toys were packed away neat, Shoes in the cupboard, one pair on his feet. Miss Higgeldy Piggledy, peeked into his room and saw he was sweeping it out with a broom, everything shining, his windows gleamed bright, not even a speck of dust was in sight. Suddenly Smarty Pants reached out with his hand then frowning, then smiling, he went over to stand by his clean window so that he could see some shiny bright coins, one, two and three! Miss Higgledy Piggledys eyes opened wide, and pushing the door open, went on inside. 'What have you there? Please can I see?' and Smarty Pants said, 'These are for me!' 'The fairies once told me, if I was good, and kept my room tidy, as all children should, they would leave me a present, just by my bed. and here are pennies, just like they said!' Now Miss Higgledy Piggledy went back to her room and started to tidy and sweep with the broom. With her toys in the cupboard, and windows now clean she stood back and smiled, it was the best it had been. She didn't find pennies, there wasn't one there, but her room looked so pretty, she did not even care. Outside her room, Smarty Pants smiled he was such a clever and cunning young child! |
