Run Pheasant Run!

run pheasant run
the hunter pursues
a bird of beauty
soulful eyes connect
to mine
I say hello
and comfort this
creature of God
who flees from bullets

my yard is a haven
for pheasants whose
destiny is not the dinner plate
as guns fire in the
distant brush of predators
my voice calms my nervous
friend
as I spread seed
and encouragement for
a bird on the run
