An Unnamed Horse

by Readywriter52

The emaciated brown horse appeared one morning, looking like a skeleton among Anna’s well-fed horses. After he bolted, she deposited the oats on the ground and watched him eat. She wished to help him, but he remained wary of her. He stayed, regained his health, but Anna couldn’t get near him. One day as she stood with an apple in her hand, she felt a nudge on her back. Swinging around, she came face-to-face with the horse. He seemed to grin at her. While he munched an apple, she brushed him.

She whispered, “You’re no longer an unnamed horse. Your name is Caleb. You are a survivor.”
