What it would be like to have a dragon
My Fire-breathing Friend
by dragonpoet
On the day the dragon eggs hatch
What lifetime friend will my eyes catch As our eyes meet so do our hearts So there is no way we will part Whether golden, bronze, blue of green I will keep it safe, fed and clean With our shared telepathic seeds We will always know each other's needs. When a dragon is in high passion Its owner acts in like fashion. For protection from hail's hard sting Use your dragon's umbrella wing If I am tired and have no bed On my friend's warm skin I lay my head Quick vacations I would not lack If I traveled on dragon back For I'd jump in the count of three From Chicago to Italy A dragon is a friend to keep No relationship is so deep When it becomes time for your death He, too, will take his final breath. |

Most of the ideas of dragons I got from reading Anne McCafftey's Dragonriders of Pern SF books.
