Generational Gap

by jdrhye

Children come
then they grow
to a passion
they don"t know
no comparison
the same
parentage
not to blame

Liquor
and a good brew
drugs intoxicating
uninhibited pro
sexual being
enticing pose

Babies come
they don't know
father thrills
mother wills
going with
mortality's
flow

Young parents
in the thrall
not any
witherall
change a diaper
hear the squall
they are done
with
it
all

grandparents raising
youngun's spawn
graciously
accepting task
love does
not
wear
a mask

Where are the parents?
vacationing
responsibility,
basking in sun
watching bikinied ladies
and girls in a thong

Life is precious
life was good
when your babies
were in baby hood

Now it's different
babies bear seeds
like over abundant
vine laden weeds

When did it happen
where is the wrong?
society dealt us
entitled pawns

Integrity
floundered
no longer
moral fortitude
ethics
faded
traded
for
personal gain
familiarity
meets up
with
the
same

Family values
lost in the search
finding individual
golden
perch

Not intended to come across as a mean generalization of all young people. We all make mistakes and choices that we have to pay for in the long run. I wrote this to express an emotional turmoil of love, nuturing, values, confusion and fear on my own personal feelings. Please do not take offenc or as a personal judgement. I love my son, his friends and the young lady, mother to be. I would appreciate reviews based on technique and fair critique of the work itself. Where and why the poem was derived: My son is about to become a young father. He is twenty-four, unmarried and the mother lives 17 hours away. He wants to except responsibility but they cannot get along for 2 minutes without being at one anothers throat. She gets angry and threatens him with not being able to see the child and suing him for everything he is worth. Yes, thank goodness they did not marry. At one time they made a go of their relationship but my son began to see the error of his choice a few days short of concieving. I worry about their ability to be descent parents together or apart and I worry about my first grandchild. My son and I are to make a trip to visit before the baby is born to help with a more positive communication base with her and her family. I am sure I will become the referee in more ways than one. So wish me luck and pray for this child who is not yet born but already has a turmultuous beginning. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read. Thank you channeled for the very fitting picture.
