Unrequited love. A ballad of sorrow
A chapter in the book Blessed is the Fragile Heart
The Lady in the Lily Pond
To the lily I weep my tears
In bracken pools so dark.
Here on the wold, I mark the years,
Love's arrow missed its mark
My virgin lips were never kissed
My soul was left unfed;
For cupid's arrow sorely missed,
Yet, pierced my heart instead.
So cold, so cold like waters deep
My loved one loves me not.
Amongst these blossoms I do weep
My heart with woe is fraught.
At the day's end when lilies close
They hide in shades of black.
From these cold depths where water flows
I'm never coming back.
He didn't know, I loved him so
Another he has wed;
Into the pond I now will go
And there I'll make my bed.
