The Lady And The Moon
Lu de yu yueliang
by jim vecchio
Chenxi Liang was a beautiful Mandarin woman, but not in a prideful way.
Her country was in the midst of a great period of change. Many still held to their old ways, while their science and technological advances were daily propelling them into a future society.
Her relationship with Shoi-Ming symbolized that culture. Shoi-Ming courted her in the traditional fashion, while preparing to explore the moon with three others in the coming months.
Their farewell kiss was a most memorable one, on a small patch of ground only witnessed by the moon.
Somewhere between earth and the moon, the rocket exploded.
Hanfu, the traditional garments, were now only worn on special occasions.
Chenxi wore her decorative yi (open cross garment) with a colorful shan (over jacket) and silken gun (skirt) nightly.
She would walk by the small patch of green and nightly stare at the moon.
She remembered that kiss.
