I'm sure I misunderstood.

I should be offended, sir
But golly gee whiz, what the heck.
I'll let you insult me a little more, sir

A partial conversation I had with a Black Panther member in the seventies.
Like the Duke, I had a code. "I am a professional as long as the situation calls for it. Beyond that it's self-preservation." I arrested the person for indecent exposure, flashing women." I didn't have to carry out my threat.
