Where do dreams go?

Moon Dreams

by gansach

I know where old dreams go~
softly, sweetly,
in primrose dawn,
dream fairies flit
and carry on;
gently gather
each sleeper's dream,
stow them in sacks
bulging at seam.

I know where old dreams go~
swiftly, fleetly,
on fairy wings,
dream fairies fly
and each one brings
a bag of dreams,
used up and old,
circles the stars
to moon of gold.

I know where old dreams go~
quickly, neatly,
amidst moonbeams,
fairies shake out
their bags of dreams;
dream dust sparkles
and sifts through sky
to the moon surface
where it will lie.

I know where old dreams go~
bravely, boldly,
come to explore,
man lands on moon,
opens the door;
as breathless world
sees man invade,
small step, giant leap
on moondreams made.

This poem was written to commemorate the 30th anniversary in 1999 of the Apollo 11 moon landing July 20, 1969. It was included in a book of collected poems about the moon which I wrote and published in 2001.
